Soka has re-upped her Spring/Summer 2016 collection, for her runway presentation at this year’s Bermuda Fashion Festival. Soka is a womenswear that embraces femininity while romanticizing contemporary designs.
She is the Modern day Dorothy Dandridge meets Madonna in the SEX Book. Soka designer Karen De Freitas started designing while living on the island Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Shortly thereafter, She moved New York City to attend Parson School of Design. While a student she apprenticed with brands such Alice + Olivia, Zac Posen, Bibhu Mohapatra and Yigal Azrouel. Through these internships, Soka developed an elevated taste in contemporary designs, while remaining true to her island roots. She then launched her first contemporary collection under the name Soka in Spring Summer 2015, establishing the brand aesthetic strongly rooted in marrying colors and reinvigorating classic silhouettes. Soka has so far appeared at Brooklyn Fashion Week 2015 and The Collection Moda Jamaica, 2015 and was featured in magazines such as Ugly Magazine, even getting the cover of Seven Tribes magazine and Bassculture Magazine in February 2016 and has bee seen on Vogue.com.
